David L. Armstrong (September 7, 2010)

David Lee Armstrong Sr., age 70 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away at 4:40 A.M. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. David was born February 18, 1940 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Glen A. and Gaynell P. (Berger) Armstrong.

David retired from General Motors with 32 years of service. He also raised ranch minks for the fur trade from 1974-1985. David served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958-1961. He served on the Versailles Life Squad from 1998-2005. He was a life member of the Versailles Eagles; member of the Newport Sportsman Club and Darke County Master Gardner. David enjoyed camping, reading, sports, being outdoors and riding his scooter.

In addition to his parents, David is also preceded in death by a brother, Mark Armstrong; infant sister, Judith Ann Armstrong; and brother-in-law, Frederick James Baltes.

David is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn F. (Baltes) Armstrong, whom he married August 17, 1963; sons, David L. Armstrong Jr. of Daphne, Alabama, Gery Armstrong of Versailles and Gregory Armstrong of Versailles; sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara Borgert of Minster, Brenda and Tony Horn of Chandler, Arizona, and Beverly Jackson of Charleston, South Carolina; and in-laws; Keith and Rosalie (Baltes) Loudermilk of Vandalia, Roger and Linda Baltes of Saint Louis, Missouri, Susan Baltes of San Diego, California, Frank Baltes of Houston, Charlene Baltes of Phoenix, Arizona, Marcia Seibert of Mesa, Arizona, John Scott Baltes of Tampa, Florida, Jean Murphy of Versailles and Lora Baltes of Urbana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Gerald Bensman celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard.
