Sondra Sue Thompson (September 26, 2012)

Sondra Sue Thompson, 70, of Greenville, passed away at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday evening, September 26, 2012 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

She was born September 28, 1941 in Pitsburg, OH, daughter of the late Guy and Ruth (Neff) Reed. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Gregg Livingston.

Sue had worked in the dietary department at Wayne Hospital for 27 years. After retiring from there she had worked for the Darke County Council on Rural Services. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville, the Women of the Moose, the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dwight H. Thompson, whom she married August 9, 1959; her children, Craig (Tonia) Thompson of Greenville, and Carla (fiance, Mike Otte) Livingston of Maria Stein; grandchildren, Ashly (Josh) Shellhaas, Tasha Livingston, and Nicole (fiance, Jeff Gaylord) Thompson; a great grandson, Mahlon Greggory Shellhaas; step grandchildren, Heather Shoenleben and Michael Shoenleben; and sisters, Doris Jean (Robert) Koffer of Laura, and Mary Ann Reed of Greenville.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 1, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Randy Devor officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. with the American Legion Auxiliary having a memorial service at 4:45 p.m. The family requests memorial contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice.

Ralph J. “Rally” Shiverdecker (September 24, 2012)

Ralph J. “Rally” Shiverdecker, age 89, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on, Monday, September 24, 2012 at 5:42 PM at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born on March 2, 1923 in York Township near Brock, Ohio, to the late Sherman & Pearl (Supinger) Shiverdecker.

He is survived by his sisters Betty (deceased husband Harvey Hole Jr.) Hole of Versailles and Helen (deceased husband Rol Everhart) Everhart of Greenville, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Donald “Joe” Shiverdecker; sisters and brothers in law, Ruth (Ray) Gibbons and Naomi (George) Frye.

Ralph worked as a farmer where he lived on the same farm for 86 years. He also was the store manager for Male Fashions in Celina, Ohio.

He was a member of the United States Army serving in WWII, European Theatre. Where he also earned a Bronze Star. Ralph was a member of the VFW in Versailles and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville.

There will be a service held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio, with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery, Brock, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00-2:00 at the funeral home. A Military Graveside Service will be conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard.

Billy Portemont (September 21, 2012)

Billy Portemont, 83, of Phillipsburg, passed away September 21, 2012 at 12:50 pm. He was born on July 1, 1929 in Brazil, Indiana to the late John and Isa (Barnes) Portemont.

Billy loved to work crossword puzzles. He was also a very avid walker and a big history buff. He especially loved his animals. Billy had worked at ABF as a Truck driver.
Billy is preceded in death by, his parents; a grandson, Christopher Portemont; a brother, Johnny Portemont: and three sisters, Kathleen Bush, Betty Harper and Mary LeMay.

Billy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jayne (Louderback)Portemont, of Phillipsburg, whom he married on June 9,1949; two sons and daughters in law, Billy and Stephanie Portemont of Brookville, Ohio, Michael and Lisa Portemont, Vancouver, Washington; and a daughter, Jonisa Portemont and partner, Suzanne Pearson of Phillipsburg; extended family, Kathy Portemont of Gordon, Robin Kleismit of Columbus, Dawn Gilbert of Indiana, Shirlie King, Union, Ohio; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A casual gathering to celebrate Billy's life will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 2-4pm at the Hunter's Club in Phillipsburg, Ohio. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The family is being served by Braund Funeral Home, New Madison, Ohio.

Louise (Weezie) Richards Buell (September 24, 2012)

Louise (Weezie) Richards Buell, age 88, of Greenville, passed away at her residence on Monday, September 24, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on April 29, 1924 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Cyril G. and Eileen A. (Norton) Richards.

Louise received her education at St. Mark Catholic grade school, Kenosha High School and St. Teresa’s College in Winona MN.

On December 27, 1947 she was united in marriage to Dennis Patrick Buell at St. Mark Catholic church.

In 1962, Dennis and Louise moved their family to Greenville, Ohio where they raised their seven children. She is survived by her loving husband Dennis for 65 years, children: Cathy and (Ed) Cornell, John Buell, Tom and (Janet) Buell, Eileen Stegall and special friend, Mike Schulze, Molly and (Mark) Logan, Patricia and (Randy) Lear, Michael and (Gina) Buell. Louise is further survived by 17 grandchildren (Amy, Jonathon, Jack, Adam, Melissa, Stephanie, Britt, Jonathon, Katie, Emily, Patrick, Joseph, Sam, Grace, Tommy, Cy and Elena) and 13 great grandchildren (Jacob, Joshua, Braden, Avery, Landon, Mason, Colin, Sophie, Samantha, Matthew, Chloe, Liam, Charlie), brother Paul Hoyt Richards, sister Mary Eileen (Richards) Walker, and sister in law Maureen Freeland.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by brothers Dr. John Richards and Charles Richards.

Louise was the secretary for Darke County United Way for several years. Louise’s greatest pleasure was to spend time with her husband, children and her grandchildren. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, loved to knit having made personalized Christmas stockings for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren, sang in the St. Mary’s choir and was a member of the St. Mary’s Rosary Altar Society. Louise lived her life with intention. She had been very active with her volunteer work throughout the Greenville and Darke county area. She inspired others by her faith, her ability to enjoy her family and all that life had to offer.

Louise’s family would like to give a special thank you to State of the Heart Hospice especially Beth Winner and Ashley Ray for their wonderful care and support.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday September 28, 2012 in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Father John R. White officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio. Prayers will be recited at 4:00 P.M. and the Rosary Altar Society will recite the Rosary at 7:45 P.M. Thursday in the funeral home.

Daniel Ray Hager (September 23, 2012)

Daniel Ray Hager, 26 of New Paris, passed away on September 23,2012 at Reid Hospital. He was born March 20, 1986 in Richmond, Indiana to Bob & Karen(Wissler)Hager of New Paris.

Daniel was a 2004 graduate of National Trail High School. He loved sports, especially Ohio State and North Carolina Basketball. He could tell you everything and anything about sports. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. Daniel never met a stranger and had many friends. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Daniel was preceded in death by great grandparents, Linville and Emma Wissler, and Elmer and Ruby Brumbaugh; and paternal grandparents, Earl and Georgia Evans.

In addition to his parents, Daniel is survived by a daughter, Iredessa Nicole Hager, a brother, Robbie and Christy Hager of New Madison; a sister, Mandy and Kenny Mann of Eaton; four nephews, Brent and Dylan Hager and Trey and Payton Mann; four nieces, Kynnedi and Reagyin Hager, Danika Mann, and Madisyn Mann; maternal grandparents, Bill and Mary Wissler of Richmond; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 7:00 pm at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren, 373 Love Road, New Paris with Pastors Tony Price and Kyle Hermann officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until the time of service. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Maxine M. Bruss (September 21, 2012)

Maxine M. Bruss age 88, of Wayne Lakes passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family at 9:00 A.M. on Friday, September 21, 2012. Maxine was born June 30, 1924 in Allen Township, Ohio to the late LeRoy A. & Marie T. (Brooks) Sharp.

Maxine is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Terry & Jill Overbay of Wayne Lakes; daughter, Linda Bruss of Wayne Lakes; grandchildren, Kelly Williamson & fiancĂ©, Dean Lepka, Troy & Hiwot Overbay and Todd Schricker; great grandchildren, Brittany “Jewel”, Tia “Angel” & Mariah “Precious” Williamson, Hunter, Abbie & Ashley Overbay, Justice, Jayden, Jordy, Maddie, McKenna, Joah, Liberty & Chealie Schricker; brothers & sister-in-law, Robert Sharp of Greenville and Verle & Harriett Sharp of Greenville; sister-in-law, Dorothy Sharp of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Maxine is also preceded in death by her 1st husband, Charles Overbay; 2nd husband, Warren Richard Bruss; and brothers, A.D., Verne and Victor Sharp.

Maxine retired from Kmart and was well known as the Kmart lady. Maxine was a life member of the Greenville V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She had over 10,000 volunteer hours at the Dayton Veteran’s Administration.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. John E. McRoberts officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Ft. Jefferson. Virginia M. (Dohme) Hollinger (September 22, 2012)

Virginia M. (Dohme) Hollinger, 80, of Greenville, passed away early Saturday morning, September 22, 2012 at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

She was born July 26, 1932 in Greenville, daughter of the late Chester and Estelle (Boaz) Oliver. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn R. Dohme on September 9, 1982; an infant daughter, Sherill Dohme; and several brothers and sisters.

Virginia was retired from the Ansonia Schools where she had worked in the cafeteria for several years. She was a member of the Trinity Wesleyan Church in Greenville.

She is survived by her second husband, Elvin Hollinger; sons, Michael (Mary) Dohme, Mark (Dawn) Dohme, and Jeffrey (Tonya) Dohme, all of Greenville; a daughter, Joy Thompson of Troy; grandchildren, Robert Dohme, Stephanie Nodine, Jennifer Dohme, Jamie Dohme, Josh Dohme, Jacy Dohme, Meaghan Kutter, Todd Dohme, Nich Thompson, Megan Thompson, Ashton Dohme, and Ben Thompson; 11 great grandchildren; Step daughter, Linda Deeter of Versailles; a step son, Dan Hollinger of Ansonia; and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, at the Trinity Wesleyan Church in Greenville with Pastor Bob Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Beamsville Cemetery.

James Leroy “Jimmy” Baltes (September 19, 2012)

James Leroy “Jimmy” Baltes age 86, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 11:20 A.M. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Hospice of Cincinnati. Jimmy was born June 18, 1926 in Versailles, Ohio to the late Leroy & Ella (Frantz) Baltes.

Jimmy is survived by his daughters & son-in-law, Jayne Baltes of Greenville and Holly & Nick Keiser of Versailles; son-in-law, Dennis Hemmelgarn of Burkettsville; grandchildren, Michael & Lisha Hemmelgarn, Bryan & Nikki Hemmelgarn, Odessa & Keith Boeckman, Megan, Madison, Mallory & Alex Keiser; great grandchildren, Allyson & Ayden Hemmelgarn, Ben & Kate Hemmelgarn and Ava, Samuel & Michael Boeckman; brother & sister-in-law, Earl & Berneice Baltes of Rossburg; sisters, Bertha Siegrist of Celina and Susie Barga of Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy is also preceded in death by his wife, Dolores C. “Dorie” (Siefring) Baltes on January 18, 2010 whom he married June 12, 1951; daughter, Kathy Hemmelgarn; brother, Ralph Baltes; and sisters, Zelma Fenner and Rita Condon.

Jimmy, along with his late wife, was former owners of Baltes Restaurant in Frenchtown for 37 years. Jimmy was also the drummer in the Jimmy Baltes Band for 65 years. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles; Knights of Columbus of St. Denis Catholic Church; Versailles Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2347; Greenville Elks Lodge; Musicians Union and a social member of the Versailles Vet’s Club.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 24, 2012 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. and Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Norma Mae Teat (September 18, 2012)

In Loving Memory, Norma Mae Teat, age 57 of Arcanum, Ohio passed away at 5:35 A.M. Tuesday September 18, 2012 at her residence. Norma was born May 22, 1955 in Fairmont, West Virginia and the daughter of the late Ethel L. (Floyd) Price and Norman Price.

She is also preceded in death by a brother Edward Price and a sister Dwanda Maxine Deem.

Norma is survived by her husband Kevin T. Teat of Arcanum; daughter Angel L. Price of Arcanum; daughter and son in law Katherine J. and Justin Glass of Arcanum; sisters Laura M. Bunger of Arcanum, Nina L. Park of Arcanum, Pauline Baker of Greenville and Millie and her husband Pete Jones of Greenville; brother Andrew Price of Greenville; grandsons Preston and Zachery Gilbert of Arcanum and one on the way. Also several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was a loving mother to all.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday September 21, 2012 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Daniel Berdine officiating. Burial will follow in the Ithaca Cemetery Ithaca, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 P.M. until time of the services in the funeral home.

George W. Dixon (September 19, 2012)

George W. Dixon, 62, of Greenville, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, September 19, 2012 in the emergency room of Wayne Healthcare in Greenville.

He was born December 25, 1949 in Pocahonas, VA., son of the late Herman K. Dixon and Cleava Jewell (Pennington) Isaac.

George had worked most of his life as a machinist in the tool and die industry. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served in Vietnam.

He is survived by his children, Angela (James) Sisco of New Madison, Donovan (Tracy) Dixon of Greenville, Tanya (Randy) Ricker of New Madison, Natalie Dixon of Greenville, and Nathan Dixon of Greenville; 13 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; sisters, Dottie Hampton of Tipp City, and Kelley Tipton of Vandalia; and a very special companion and caregiver, Mary Grill of Greenville.

Services with military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, September 22, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

Sherry L. Prasuhn (September 16, 2012)

Sherry L. Prasuhn, 58, of Rossburg, passed away early Sunday morning, September 16, 2012 at the St. Rita Hospital in Lima, OH.

She was born February 14, 1954 in Greenville, daughter of the late Earl and Vivian L. (Snyder) Ungericht.

Sherry had worked at CVS Pharmacy in Greenville for 15 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Greenville, the Ansonia American Legion Auxiliary #353 for which she had served several years as President, and was active with the Girl Scouts in Ansonia having served as a leader for several years.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ray A. Prasuhn, whom she married July 3, 1976; a daughter, Tressa (William) Emmins of Coldwater; grandchildren, Gage and Abram Emmins; brothers, Terry Ungericht and Garry (Carol) Ungericht both of Ansonia; sisters, Connie Marker of Greenville, and Bill (Jerry) Riffell of Ansonia; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the St. John Cemetery.

Judith A. "Judy" Barga (September 14, 2012)

Judith A. "Judy" Barga, 69, of Versailles, passed away Friday afternoon, September 14, 2012 at her residence.

She was born October 29, 1942 in Greenville, daughter of the late Raymond and Janice (Miller) Henderson.

A homemaker, Judy was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown and had attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville. She was a member of the St. Anne's Sodality and the Greenville VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Alfred "Al" Barga, whom she married June 30, 1962; children, Greg (Pamela) Barga, Matthew (Allison) Barga, Theresa (Bruce) Siefring, and Anthony (Kelly) Barga; grandchildren, Gordy and Kyle Alaina) Siefring, Andrea, Aric, Yvonne, Paul, Ethan, and Connor Barga; and a brother, Larry (Ineke) Henderson.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Spetember 20 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Fr. John White officiating. Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery.

Karen L. Osborne

Karen L. Osborne, 64, of New York, New York, passed away unexpectedly at her residence.

She was born November 1, 1947 in Charleroi, PA, daughter of Ruth (Jarrett) Osborne of Greenville, OH, and the late Ernest C. "Ozzie" Osborne. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by a sister, Jennifer Osborne.

Karen was 1965 graduate of Greenville High School in Greenville, OH, and held a B.S. degree from Miami University in Oxford, OH and a Master's degree from Harvard University. She was self employed as a free lance editor. She was a patron of the arts and an avid reader.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and Mike Bowman of Rossburg; a brother, Richard Osborne of Playa Del Rey, CA; a niece, Sadie Bowman of Oregon; and nephews, Zane Bowman of Florida, and Wyatt Bowman of Oregon.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 19 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Greenville Public Library.

Robert L. "Bob" Fisher (September 12, 2012)

Robert L. "Bob" Fisher, 92, of Greenville, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 12, 2012 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville,Ohio.

He was born March 30, 1920 in Bradford, Ohio, son of the late Ott and Opal (Detrick) Fisher. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Josh Fisher; a brother, Frank (Lucille) Fisher; and sisters, Ondalee (Ted) Williams, Evelyn (JE) Williams, and Janette (Bud) Moore.

Bob had spent most of his life working as a salesman for The Treaty Company. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Darke County Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge #140, Liar's Club and Elk's Lodge #1139.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jane (Ross) Fisher whom he married on August 8, 1943 ; children, Robert E. (Marlene) Fisher, of Coldwater; Cindy (James L.) Lutz, of Lancaster; Jason (Christy) Fisher, and Richard Fisher, of Greenville; grandchildren, Nickolas (Amy) Fisher, Julie (Ted) Ruchty, Stacy (Bob) Larkin, Jody (Jeff) Dupler, and Eli Fisher; great grandchildren, Betsy, LeAnn, Ted, Kevin, Michael, David, Chris, Lydia, Katie, Natalie, Shelby, Emily, Josie and Jared; a brother-in-law, Ted Williams; and neices and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15 at the 1st Presbyterian Church 114 E 4th Street Greenville, Ohio with Pastor John Person officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

George was born May 30, 1954 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina to Eileen R. (Jones) Altenberger of Greenville and the late George E. Altenberger Sr.

In addition to his mother, George is also survived by his wife, Jerri Lee (Sharp) Altenberger; son, Jared Altenberger of Greenville; daughter, Erin Altenberger & Corey Roessner of Dayton; brother & sister-in-law, Dana & Judy Altenberger of Virginia; sisters & brothers-in-law, Sherry & Michael Gallagher of Bradford and Anita & Tommy Welch of Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Dorothy Sharp of Greenville; brothers-in-law & sister-in-law, David & Carrie Sharp of Greenville and Doug Sharp of Tipp City; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Lisa & Jeff Byram of Bradford; his two beloved pets, Chloe and Sadie; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his father, George is also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Victor A. Sharp.

George graduated from Tucumcari High School in Tucumcari, New Mexico. George served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. George worked for 34 years at ITW Hobart Brothers in Troy. George was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Greenville. George loved the outdoors; rather it was riding his bicycle, fishing, mowing, washing his cars or just sitting on the porch swing.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 14, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church 7418 St. Rt. 121 North Greenville with Pastor Alan Knoke officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville and Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the church. Richard H. Ayers (September 9, 2012)

Richard H. Ayers, 91, of Greenville, passed away early Sunday morning, September 9, 2012 in the emergency room of Wayne Healthcare in Greenville.

He was born July 23, 1921 in Dayton, son of the late Fred H. and Nellie Marie (Spitler) Ayers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Maxine E. (Bell) Ayers on February 28, 2008; brothers, Byron Ayers, Darrell Ayers and a sister, Alene Anzack.

Richard was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII. He had worked as a tool and die maker at NCR in Dayton for 28 years then retired from Fram/Allied Signal in Greenville after 10 years. He was a member of the Greenville Grace Brethren Church.

He is survived by his two daughters, Gayle and husband Harry Kinnison, and Dianna and husband Gailen Wilson all of Greenville; grandchildren, Thomas (Peggy) Lucas, Melinda (David) Crowe, Kyley (Jay) Pearson and Korey Wilson; great grandchildren, Madysen Crowe, Christian Crowe, Austin Crowe, Leah Crowe, Connor Pearson, and expecting Tanner Lucas; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 12 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Danny Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery.

Thomas Michael Foley (September 8, 2012)

Thomas Michael Foley, 69 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away, Saturday, September 8, 2012.
Tom was born October 27, 1942 in Van Wert, Ohio to Gaylord and Vada (Mohler) Foley. He moved to Greenville in 1954 and graduated from Greenville High School with the class of 1961.

On December 28, 1963 he married the former Etta Mae (Bruss). She preceded him in death in 2002.

Tom attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was active as a local business man in Greenville. His previous business ventures included Foley’s on Broadway and Mr. R.V. For the last 32 years he has been the proprietor of the Fairlawn Steakhouse in Greenville.

He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida and visiting Northern Michigan in the summer. He loved spending time with his Grandkids and Nephews and going boating.

He is survived by his FiancĂ©: Judy Whittaker, Son and Daughter-in-law: Pat and Kandy Foley, of Greenville; Daughter and Son-in-law: Becky and James Forse, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Sister, Kathleen “Foley” Custer, of Greenville, Ohio; Four grandchildren: Megan Foley, Molly, Jack, and Madelyn Forse, and Nephews: Jacob and Caleb Custer.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 4-8 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 233 West Third Street Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Fr. John White Celebrant. He attended Findlay College; served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Haleakala. He was retired from BASF.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he taught PSR; a member of the Knights of Columbus; was a coach for Greenville Baseball; served on the board for youth football and the City Park Board.

Duane E. Meyer (September 7, 2012)

Duane E. Meyer, 78, of Greenville, passed away early Friday morning, September 7, 2012 at Oakley House in Greenville.

He was born January 7, 1934 in Willowdell, OH, son of the late Carl and Marie (Mayo) Meyer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn M. Meyer on October 22, 2005.

Duane was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He had spent most of his life farming and had also been employed at the former Lambert's in Ansonia. He was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a brother, Kenneth (Janet) Meyer of Atlanta, GA; nieces and nephews; Ed and Diane Huffman, Jason, Mindy, Gabriella, and Caleigh Stebbins.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery.

Elberta Grubb (September 5, 2012)

Elberta Grubb, 89, of Kettering and formerly of New Madison, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at The Oaks of West Kettering. She was born in Tennessee on April 19, 1923 to the late Charles and Naomi Wells.

Elberta was a former housekeeper at Miami Valley Hospital. She loved spending time with her family, as well as reading and and crocheting.

In addition to her parents, Elberta is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Wells; a sister, Henrietta Ellison; and two sons, Larry Walker and Ronnie Walker.

Elberta is survived by two sons, Jerry and Shirley Walker of Tennessee and Mark Baller of Centerville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nita and Fred Watern of New Madison, Freda O'Bryan of Kettering, Sandra and Ray Nelson of Moraine; four sisters, Janice Wells of Dayton, Arania Blount of Dayton, Brenda and Doug Scott of Tennessee and Chris Robertson of Dayton; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 3 great, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Braund Funeral Home with Steve Watern being asked to officiate. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery.

She was a member of Pleasant View Missionary Church where she taught Sunday School for several years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; step father: Delbert Henderson; husband Dale E. Kreitzer who passed away in 1996 whom she married December 20, 1940; brother: Paul Overcash; step sisters: Elnora Palsgrove, Marlene Evans.

Margaret is survived by her husband, John Frank Taylor whom she married November 24, 1951; sons & daughter-in-law, Homer Taylor of Greenville and Ricky & Ann Taylor of Greenville; daughters & sons-in-law, Ava & Jeff Burkhart of Greenville, Madonna & Ed Lease of Greenville, Theresa & Tom Boseke of Greenville and Margie Taylor of Hollansburg; 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; brothers & sisters-in-law, Raymond & Wendy Teague of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, Homer Teague of Auburndale, Florida and Roy & Flora Teague of Greenville; sister, Maxine Smith of Union City, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sharon Zechar-Siegel (August 30, 2012)

Sharon Zechar-Siegel age 74 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 11:30 P.M. Thursday August 30, 2012 at Wayne HealthCare Center of Greenville. Sharon was born July 28, 1938 in Greenville and the daughter of the late L. Myron and Jane (Aufuldish) Zechar.

She was a former Paramedic and had been employed as Secretary for the Greenville Area Rescue Squad. Sharon’s life revolved around her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by her husband Donald L. Siegel of Greenville. They were married April 14, 1993. Also her sons and daughter in law David Murphy of Greenville and Steve and Tracy Beaver of Ansonia; daughter Kimberley L. Chipman of Tennessee; grandchildren and spouses Amanda (Kevin) Vititoe, Angela (Jere) Sowers, Shawn Beaver, Jeremy Beaver, Gabe Siegel, Eve Siegel and Ruby Siegel; great grandchildren Naomi Beaver, Preston Vititoe, Emily Stover, Kaydence Sowers, and Serenity Sowers; sister and brother in law Bonnie and Dennis Maloney of Dayton and nephew Steven Wolter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday September 4, 2012 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 Noon until time of services in the funeral home.
